You won't believe this isn't a video game. This is all live action. How do you art direct your way out of being one of the most hated, maybe annoying brands in America? That's exactly what Best tried to do with this Oscars commercial. And you tell me, does this work? The spot is called your way out of their system. The idea is you're an NPC in a rigged financial game. The main character realizes, starts sprinting, and breaks free of it. Pretty simple. But the execution is what makes this thing interesting. All live action actors, practical set builds, some tasteful VFX, but mostly captured in camera. As he's sprinting, there's this subtle humanness that starts to weaken. It's directed by Oscar Hudson, made by indie New York agency, Isle of Any. And in an interview with Little Black Book, Isle of Any co founder Toby Tier Rank said, every suit button, lapel, and texture was two d printed directly onto the suits. The sets were not painted, but printed in a pixelated way. Each character was trained in movement logic to walk like a game character.
