Worst to know if your lumber has been dried properly? Try this quick and easy test on a piece of lumber in your shop. Begin by cutting a three inch long piece from one of your boards with the chop saw. Try to avoid taking the three inch long section from the very end of a board. Then remove the core of the sample with the bad saw, leaving the two prongs on the outer edges. If the wood was dried properly, the material will be tension free, and the prongs will stand straight up. If the prongs touch or curve outward severely, then your materials experience some form of case hardening and you can expect movement while machining. You can also check for tension with a moisture meter. If there's more than a 2% difference in moisture between a flat sawn area and a quarter sawn area, then it'll likely move while machining.
