Sydney Swans and the GWS Giants share a city, but they couldn't be more different. There are many great rivalries in the AFL. However, with this one, not enough people have picked a side. Let me break down both and I'll tell you where I stand. The Swans story starts in 1874. Originally formed as a South Melbourne Football Club, they relocated to Sydney in 1982 and spent years trying to find their footing in a rugby league city. Then in 2003, everything changed. Under coach Paul Roos, the club built what became known as Bloods Culture, a player driven resilient identity that broke a seventy two year premiership drought in 2005. Since that moment, the Swans have become one of the most consistent teams in the whole competition, and they've had some of the game's greatest talents suit up in the red and white jumper. In short, they have a long standing football heritage, they consistently find themselves in September, and they play in the oldest stadium in Australia, the SCG. Now it's time for the Giants.
