These are Ivy League feeder competitions because the majority of students who do them end up going to schools like Stanford, MIT, or Harvard, better top 20 universities. Most of them are academic in nature, either involving research or being the top point 1% in a specific field. When admission officers see one of these programs, they are instantly impressed, because winning these competitions is as difficult, if not more difficult, than getting into Ivy's themselves.
