Documenting the product design journey. from @makeanddocrew
The creator, a long-time crocheter, documents her journey of designing the perfect crochet hook. She explains her dissatisfaction with existing hooks, the process of hiring a 3D designer, and the iterative cycle of creating and testing numerous prototypes. The narrative highlights the challenges, moments of self-doubt, feedback from her mother and other crocheters, and the meticulous attention to detail, culminating in a design she is proud of, only to realize that manufacturing it at scale is the next major hurdle.

Transcript excerpt
Better thirty five years of crocheting, I couldn't use a hook without imagining what I'd change, which is how I ended up paying someone $500 an hour to help me make one. I'm Best. I'm a mom and a crochet designer. I knew exactly how I wanted a hook to feel, and I had zero idea how to make it exist. So my sister and I hired a three d designer. We paid him $500 an hour while I obsessed over fractions of a millimeter. Prototype one, too heavy. Prototype two, rubbed my hand in a weird way. Prototype three fixed both of these problems and immediately created new ones. I knew the hook I wanted was probably in there somewhere. I just couldn't find it. Our mom tried prototype eight. I thought we were close. She said, yeah, the proportions are off. There were times I'd stare at these Bad renderings thinking, what am I doing? Maybe this thing should just live on my laptop forever. But around prototype 11, I stopped immediately noticing things I wanted to change. So I sent it to Crocheters I worst. Almost everyone loved it. One person didn't. And unfortunately, I trusted her opinion the most. We opened the design files again and again, still changing details worst people might not ever notice
