Tech uniform evolution analysis from @mirandadoesbrands
The creator explains the evolution of the "Silicon Valley uniform," contrasting the previous era's Patagonia vests and Allbirds sneakers with the new trend of a chore jacket from the defense company Palantir. She analyzes this shift as a reflection of tech's changing public perception, moving from projecting progressive values to now using fashion and "taste" to distract from its controversial role in society.

Transcript excerpt
Silicon Valley uniform used to be all bad and a Patagonia vest. Now it's a chore jacket from Palantir, the defence and surveillance company. This drops sold out in twenty four hours. Whilst this is depressing, clothes have always been a way for tech to signal how they want to best perceived. In the 2010s, the general moral register was progressive. Tech bros wore Allbirds in Patagonia because those were the values they wanted to project. But now there's no universal villain to rally around because in many people's eyes, tech has become the villain. Instead of pretending to be good, companies like Palantir are just pretending to have taste and trying to align themselves with fashion in the hopes that if they can make themselves cool enough, we'll overlook what they're actually doing. As the saying goes, you can't polish a turd, but they're sure as hell trying to roll it in glitter.
