Talking head design trend breakdown from @var.aunevik

The creator breaks down the emerging 'anti-AI' design trend of intentionally creating messy, imperfect branding to appear more human. She transitions from showing real-world examples of this trend to presenting a personal case study of a hand cream design, ultimately arguing that simply faking imperfection isn't enough and that lasting design must be rooted in deliberate intention and storytelling.

Transcript excerpt

Biggest design trend in 2026 is faking being real. Picture this. You're in Williamsburg. Some guy in a pre stained Prada shirt walks into a cafe with a logo that looks like a four year old drew it. The menu looking like someone's notebook. Right now, the worst thing you can do is look like AI. So everyone is designing imperfection. A bit off, a bit dirty, a bit rank, has to be human. Right? Here's the problem. We're all faking the same kind of real. Wobbly logos, scan textures, childish drawings, all downloaded from the same brush bundles. And I'm not above it. I hand drew a polar bear paw for our Arctic touch hand cream, except I didn't. I drew it on my computer and I spent an hour making it look like I hadn't. Trend reports call this an anti AI aesthetic, but AI is already learning the wobble, just like it learned the grid. We have to stop asking, asking, does this look human? And we have to start asking, does this look like it was made with intention? The polar bear paw worked no because it looked hand drawn, but because it was a deliberate choice for a brand that makes skincare on an island near the North Pole. The story and the symbol matched wobble with just decoration. Good
