If you're gay, you shouldn't be. That was something I learnt very quickly when I started secondary school. It's funny because around that tier, age tier, 14, all the boys I was around were starting to go through puberty. And with that came new feelings of attraction towards girls. And it was an exciting tier, most conversations seemed to centre on that. But at the same time, I was getting new feelings of attraction too, just not in the same way they were. While it was exciting for them, for me, realising that something didn't quite match up felt like the opposite. I remember feeling deeply distressed, everyone, their brothers, their friends, seemed to be on the same page. I was attracted to guys, and no one was talking about it. No, there must have been something wrong. Not with the situation, but with me. And that, that was the beginning of how I convinced myself that I was wrong.
