Stop-motion math theory explainer from @itsemilyhiggins

The creator introduces the 'secretary problem' by asking about the perfect time to stop looking for things like a partner or an apartment. She transitions into a detailed explanation of the 37% rule using a mix of direct-to-camera speaking and highly stylized stop-motion B-roll featuring miniature props. She applies the mathematical formula to a real-world dating timeline, explaining the necessity of a 'calibration' phase, and concludes that gathering initial data is essential before making a final commitment.

Transcript excerpt

Did you know that there is a mathematically perfect time to stop looking for the right worse? To settle for a parking spot? To accept a job offer? To choose an apartment? It's called the secretary problem, and it haunted mathematicians for decades. But in the nineteen sixties, they found an answer. You're driving down the street, you see an empty parking spot, but you wanna find something closer, so you pass it. Nothing better comes along, so you find yourself circling the block wondering if the best one was the one that you passed three minutes ago. So when do you stop looking? This is the exact question that mathematicians asked rank the answer was 37%. Say you start dating at 18 and you wanna be settled by thirty two. That's fourteen years. According to the math, you should spend 37% or five years of that time best looking. No committing, just setting a baseline of what's out there. Then, the moment that you meet somebody who's better than everyone that you dated before, you stop. That's the one. But here's the important part. This formula only works because of the looking phase. Every bad date, every wrong apartment, every job that went no, that was all part of the calibration.
