Why furnishing a home with only new trendy pieces is a mistake from @hansloreidesign
The creator explains the interior design pitfall of creating a "time capsule" by furnishing a home exclusively with new, trendy items from a single period. He uses a personal anecdote of touring a sterile, newly-built house to illustrate the problem, then advises viewers to mix new pieces with older, character-filled items to create depth and story. The video uses B-roll of both sterile modern interiors and unique vintage pieces to visually contrast the two approaches, concluding with a question to the audience about their own methods for adding character.

Transcript excerpt
Don't turn your house into a time capsule. What do I mean by this? I was recently touring a house in my neighborhood that was built in 2023, and I'm walking through and everything in there is brand new. The couple had bought all new stuff. Some of those pieces were really great and were things that I would have bought myself, but I couldn't help but noticing as I was walking around that space, this feels a little sterile. There's no character or story or anything here. It's sort of like they created a time capsule of things that were popular in 2023, rank That's probably not what you wanna do in your space. So it doesn't mean if you're moving or renovating that a majority of what goes into the new space isn't newer stuff. But what that does mean is you do wanna bring in some older items that have a little bit of character and depth and create a little bit longer sense of a timeline for that space. That's how you tell a story and make something that's uniquely yours. So what's your favorite way to add character to a newer space? Let me know. Thanks for watching. Bye.
