Transcript excerpt

I did a weaving residency in Morocco, and this is how it went. I stayed in a beautiful eighteenth century Riyadh in Fez with a dye studio on the rooftop. You live and share meals among a team of Moroccan artisans who are so welcoming and sweet despite the language barrier. The food I ate was also absolutely delicious. Subtle warning that you will eat a lot of bread. On day one of the week long residency, I sketched out some designs and chose colors, then we got to dyeing on the rooftop. The yarn is dyed using natural materials like henna, saffron, and indigo. The process took about a couple hours, but it was really dreamy doing this during sunset. And then on day two, the yarn was ready for me to use. Another artisan taught me how to add warp thread to the loom and prepare it for weaving. She also walked me through the process of adding knots, and it takes a very long time. It was around day four when I got more comfortable with the movements. The residency is open to everyone, and you good inquire about the residency via email.
